DIY fume extractor

A quick DIY fume extractor.
Breathing fumes when soldering is not exactly an healthy activity.
You can buy a fume extractor but often they are quite expensive.

An entry level decent fume extractor starts around 50$ and is easy to reach up to 150$ for professional ones.
Of course is possible to do something similar much less costly, using what we have around.
The message is ... try to avoid to breath soldering fumes.

First prototype

Anyone who play with electronic often has what is needed in the junk box :)
My first quick and fast fume extractor is built using a flexible support for microphone screen and a 12Vdc computer fan and a cigarette smoke filter.

Pro :
  • easy to put together
  • cheap
Cons :
  • not easy to keep position close to the circuit
  • need a 12V power supply
  • aesthetically ugly
